As many men age, unfortunately the size of their prostate increases which we call BPH (benign prostatic hypertrophy). For many men this leads to going to the restroom too often during the day and especially at night, not emptying their bladder well or having to strain to urinate.
In the past, an operation called the TURP (transurethral resection of the prostate) also referred to as the rotor router was often done. This operation has been replaced by the much less invasive Greenlight laser. The side effects of bleeding are much reduced and sometimes this can be done as an outpatient giving men many years of easy strong urination.
