Dr. Gary Bellman is a Board Certified Urologist and is fully adept in his field. With well over 20 years of experience, Dr. Bellman has gained the trust from both female and male patients- always providing the best possible care.
For his male patients wanting to have a vasectomy procedure, he offers the traditional incision techniques (done locally at the hospital), and also the no-needle, no-scalpel vasectomy technique (done as an in-office procedure.)
A vasectomy leaves the patient unchanged except for the fact that the sperm cord (vas) is blocked. The testes still produces sperm, but they die and are absorbed by the body. The level of male hormone remains the same and all sexual characteristic remain unchanged.
The no-needle, no scalpel technique takes less time, causes less discomfort, and may have lower rates of bleeding and infection. Recovery following the no-scalpel procedure is usually complete in a few days and Dr. Bellman’s patients are able to drive themselves home after the procedure.
While a vasectomy can be reversed surgically at times, it’s successful reversal cannot be guaranteed, and this procedure is done with the intent of being permanent. Dr. Bellman recommends his male patients who make the decision to undergo a vasectomy to bank their sperm if the possibility of wanting kids may still be in the future.
A vasectomy may not be right for you if: You are very young, are having a vasectomy just to please your partner and you do not really want it, or you are counting on being able to reverse the procedure later on.
