Painkillers Use- Ties to Sexual Dysfunction

By: Dr. Gary Bellman on May 16, 2013, 12:55 pm

Among some excessive users of opiates, they equate the drug experience to sexual pleasure; Although in actuality is detrimental to their sex life- Diminished libido and impaired sexual performance being common with chronic use.  Clinical studies have shown that opiates may interfere with sex hormone secretion.

Men who take opioid pain medications for an extended period of time have the highest risk of developing ED (erectile dysfunction.)

Research has also noted that heavy or long-term use of opioids are known to cause testosterone levels to be suppressed and well below normal.
